Dubai Police, through its General Department of Anti-Narcotics, made significant strides in the fight against global drug trafficking in 2023, contributing to the arrest of international suspects and the disruption of drug operations. The department shared 372 drug-related dossiers with 44 countries, which helped lead to the arrest of 308 individuals connected to narcotics crimes around the world.
In addition to these arrests, Dubai Police seized more than two tons of drugs, including Khat, cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and 7.92 million narcotic pills. The department also took action in the digital space, identifying and blocking 1,923 online accounts linked to drug dealers across various social media platforms. These efforts played a crucial role in curbing the online promotion of narcotics.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigation Affairs, highlighted that these results reflect Dubai Police's ongoing commitment to combat international drug trafficking. He emphasized that the success was made possible by the collaboration of specialized teams, cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies, and strong partnerships with global law enforcement agencies.

The continued success of Dubai Police in the fight against drug trafficking relies heavily on international cooperation. Under the leadership of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, the force has maintained strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies worldwide. These alliances help not only in strengthening global security but also in protecting local communities. Major General Al Mansouri noted that these collective efforts contribute to the wider protection of communities and the ongoing success of Dubai Police in tackling organized crime.
Brigadier Khalid bin Muwaiza, Acting Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, underlined the importance of international collaboration in the department’s ongoing efforts. Over the past five years, Dubai Police has shared 894 intelligence reports with 66 countries, resulting in the arrest of 550 international drug suspects and the seizure of nearly 30 tons of narcotics.
Several high-profile international operations, such as **Operation Sugar Cane**, underscore the effectiveness of Dubai Police’s global partnerships. This operation led to the arrest of a major member of an international smuggling syndicate responsible for trafficking cocaine from South America to Europe through sugar shipments. The operation resulted in the seizure of 22 tons of cocaine. Another major operation, **Operation Veyda**, dismantled a trafficking and money laundering syndicate involved in drug smuggling.
Locally, Dubai Police has not only focused on international drug operations but also on preventing the spread of narcotics within the community. The General Department of Anti-Narcotics has deployed specialized field teams that focus on emerging smuggling techniques and methods of drug promotion. Brigadier Bin Muwaiza pointed out **Operation Storm**, which resulted in the seizure of more than 13 tons of Captagon pills, as an example of successful local action against the spread of narcotics.
Alongside enforcement efforts, Dubai Police has worked hard to raise public awareness about the dangers of narcotics through its Hemaya International Centre. The center conducted 333 community awareness programs in 2023, educating over 13 million students from various backgrounds. In addition, social media and educational campaigns reached an additional 13 million people, significantly expanding the reach of their efforts.
Brigadier Bin Muwaiza emphasized that the Hemaya Centre plays a crucial role in educating the community, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse and psychotropic substances. Through these programs, Dubai Police continues to make significant progress in protecting the community from the harmful impact of drugs and ensuring a safer future for all.
Dubai Police’s comprehensive approach, combining advanced technology, international collaboration, and strong community engagement, has contributed to remarkable success in 2023. Their dedication to fighting drug trafficking and raising awareness about the dangers of narcotics ensures that Dubai remains a safer place for its residents and a key player in global efforts against organized crime.
