A grand cultural celebration was recently held at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai to honor the Iranian community living in the United Arab Emirates. The event brought together a distinguished gathering of leaders, officials, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and families, highlighting the strong relationship between the Emirati and Iranian people.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, alongside Alireza Mahmoudi, the Consul General of Iran in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Their presence reflected the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations through culture, dialogue, and cooperation.
Purpose of the Event
The festival, known as “Iran Fest”, was organized by the initiative “Emirates Loves Iran” in collaboration with Dubai Police. The main aim was to celebrate the contributions of the Iranian community in the UAE and to present Iran’s rich traditions, history, and arts to residents of all backgrounds. The event also worked as a platform for cultural exchange, encouraging people of different nationalities to learn more about Iranian customs and heritage.
UAE Minister’s Address
In his keynote speech, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan expressed deep admiration for the Iranian community and their role in the UAE’s growth. He described Iran as one of the oldest civilizations in the world, with a legacy of culture, wisdom, and creativity that has influenced humanity for centuries.
He said the friendship between the UAE and Iran is built on a history of trade, family bonds, and shared values. “For centuries, our peoples have traded across the seas, supported one another, and worked together for peace and stability. Tonight is proof that our friendship is strong and continues to thrive,” he stated.
Sheikh Nahyan also highlighted the UAE’s vision of being a crossroads of cultures under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He emphasized that the UAE welcomes people of all backgrounds to live and work in harmony, and that the Iranian community holds a special place in this diverse society.

Call for Participation – Writing Competition
During his address, Sheikh Nahyan invited members of the Iranian community to participate in the UAE Writing Competition, a national initiative launched by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence in collaboration with Sandooq Al Watan.
The theme of the competition is “What the UAE Means to Me”. Participants can submit essays, poems, or letters in Arabic or English, sharing their personal journeys, experiences, and stories about life in the UAE. Winning entries will be published in a special book in both Arabic and English, and winners will be honored at a national ceremony.
The initiative, he explained, is not only about writing but about memory, belonging, and identity. It will preserve the voices and experiences of the Iranian community for future generations.
Cultural Showcases and Festivities
The event featured a rich program of cultural performances and exhibitions that reflected Iran’s diversity. Guests enjoyed traditional Persian music, folk dances, and artistic displays. The culinary section was especially popular, offering authentic Iranian dishes and sweets.
Art exhibitions showcased Iran’s history, while folkloric shows displayed the colorful traditions of different Iranian regions. Families and children actively participated in the celebrations, making the event a lively gathering of culture, heritage, and joy.
Contributions of the Iranian Community
Throughout the program, the contributions of the Iranian community to the UAE’s progress were highlighted. From business leaders and professionals to artists and educators, Iranians have played a major role in supporting the country’s economic, social, and cultural development.
Sheikh Nahyan stressed that these contributions continue to strengthen the bond between the UAE and Iran, making their relationship deeper and more enduring.
Bilateral Relations
The UAE and Iran share centuries-old ties that extend beyond culture into economic and political cooperation. Both countries are actively working to expand partnerships in tourism, trade, energy, renewable energy, financial markets, agriculture, aviation, and healthcare.
In 2014, the UAE–Iran Business Council was created to strengthen economic relations and create opportunities in trade and investment. This council connects leading business figures from both nations, supporting collaborations in food industries, healthcare, tourism, and more.
Message of Friendship and Peace
The evening concluded with Sheikh Nahyan reminding everyone that events like “Iran Fest” are more than festivals — they are opportunities to strengthen friendship and dialogue. “When cultures meet, humanity shines brightest,” he said, calling for continued cooperation and understanding between the Emirati and Iranian people.
The celebration was a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and shared values. It highlighted how the UAE has become a home where people from different backgrounds can live in harmony, contribute to society, and build a brighter future together.
