The largest operational crane on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard loomed over Baltimore's port, poised to initiate the cleanup of the Francis Scott Key Bridge wreckage. Crews continued assessing the damage by midday Friday. The crane, capable of lifting 1,000 tons, arrived late Thursday and is slated to commence debris removal from the water Saturday morning, according to U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Carmen Carver.

A second crane is en route and anticipated to bolster the efforts soon, Carver added.
State and federal authorities prioritize clearing the bustling port and reconstructing the bridge following the collision of the Dali, a massive container ship that lost power, with a support column early Tuesday. The impact caused the structure to collapse, resulting in the presumed death of six workers.
Divers retrieved two bodies of the missing construction workers, while four remain trapped underwater. All victims hailed from Mexico and Central America.
Governor Wes Moore of Maryland emphasized the urgency of locating the remaining bodies during Thursday's press briefing. Additionally, crews must strategize the removal of the stranded vessel, laden with thousands of containers and ensnared by bridge debris.
"The Dali is nearly the size of the Eiffel Tower, with the Key Bridge atop it. We're dealing with thousands of tons of steel resting on that ship, so there's significant work ahead," Moore stated during Thursday's briefing.
