4.4 Magnitude Quake Shakes Los Angeles Area: Reports

Post by: Raman Preet

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles area on Monday afternoon, startling residents and causing widespread shaking throughout the region. The tremor, which occurred near Highland Park in Los Angeles County, was recorded by the US Geological Survey (USGS) at approximately 12:20 PM PST (20:20 BST).

The earthquake's epicenter was located close to iconic landmarks such as the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory. The quake was felt across a broad area, impacting nearby cities including Pasadena and Glendale, and reaching coastal communities like Manhattan Beach and El Segundo.

Despite the significant tremors, no tsunami warning was issued by the USGS. Local officials are actively monitoring the situation for any potential damage or injuries. As of now, no reports of injuries or major damage have been confirmed.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has mobilized crews from its 106 fire stations to conduct comprehensive surveys of the Greater Los Angeles area, checking for structural damage and other concerns. The earthquake, initially estimated at a magnitude of 4.7, was later revised to 4.4 by the USGS.

This event follows a series of recent earthquakes in California, including tremors in Grapevine and Bakersfield last week. Authorities are advising residents to stay vigilant and report any damage, as aftershocks may be possible in the coming days.
