Get ready for a rare celestial spectacle coming up next month: a Total Solar Eclipse is set to grace the skies in the second week of April. This event marks the first Solar Eclipse of 2024, following hot on the heels of the first Lunar Eclipse of the year on March 25. Known as Surya Grahan, this eclipse occurs when the Moon positions itself between the Sun and Earth, causing partial or complete obstruction of the Sun's face.

During a Total Solar Eclipse, the Moon entirely covers the Sun when viewed from certain areas, creating what's known as the Path of Totality. Those within this path experience the awe-inspiring phenomenon of complete darkness during the eclipse, akin to twilight. Weather permitting, observers along this path may also catch a glimpse of the Sun's Corona, the outer atmosphere typically hidden by the Sun's brilliance.

Will the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024 be visible in India? Unfortunately not. Scheduled for April 8, this eclipse will traverse North America, spanning Mexico, the United States, and Canada. According to NASA, this will be the final Total Solar Eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044, kicking off over the South Pacific Ocean.

Just a day prior to the eclipse, the Moon will make its closest approach to Earth in this cycle, creating a larger-than-usual appearance in the sky. This proximity sets the stage for a perfect alignment during the Solar Eclipse, promising a breathtaking cosmic display.

If weather conditions permit, the eclipse's journey will commence along Mexico's Pacific coast at approximately 11:07 am PDT before progressing across various states in the U.S., including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and beyond. Parts of Canada, such as Southern Ontario and Quebec, will also witness this celestial event.

As with any Solar Eclipse, it's crucial to observe with proper eye protection to avoid harm. Regular sunglasses won't suffice; specialized solar viewing glasses are essential. However, during Totality, when the Moon completely obscures the Sun, viewers can briefly remove their protective gear for an unobstructed view.

Prepare to witness the grandeur of the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024, a captivating cosmic event not to be missed.
