Something awful occurred in Brooklyn, New York, one Sunday morning. A lady was peacefully seated on a subway train. Suddenly, a man approached her and ignited her clothes. This occurred roughly at 7:30 a.m. on the F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station.

As per police, the woman, whose identity is still unknown, was seated still, seemingly oblivious when the man assaulted her. Neither seemed to be familiar to the other, and there wasn't any verbal exchange prior.
The man fled from the train post setting her ablaze. Nearby police officers noticed the flames and rushed to assist. "A person inside the train encapsulated in flames was spotted," Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch narrated.
Someone at the station captured a video showing a man in a gray hoodie seated near the burning woman. The hoodie was similar to that of the apprehended suspect. Still, the officers were too occupied aiding the victim to identify him then.
The flames were extinguished using fire extinguishers by the officers, but it happened too late. Emergency services pronounced the woman deceased right there. A suspect was apprehended later, riding another subway train. His identity has not yet been disclosed.
The investigators are still trying to uncover the reasons behind the incident and identify the deceased woman. The New York subway is relied upon by millions every weekday. Though violent incidents are infrequent, nine murders have been reported on the subway this year, four more than last year.
This sad incident follows another subway case where Daniel Penny was acquitted for using a chokehold on Jordan Neely, a homeless man, who tragically died. The police are still probing this terrifying incident, and this has raised concerns about safety on the subway amongst commuters.
