Wasim Akram Slams Pakistan Team: 'Even Poor Than Oman, Enough Is Enough

The Pakistan cricket team is once again facing heavy criticism after their disappointing loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy. Despite several changes in the team, including new players, different captains, coaching staff, selectors, and even senior management, the results have not improved. Pakistan is now almost out of the race for the semi-finals after their poor performance in the Group A match against India on Sunday. This defeat has brought back old questions about how cricket is being managed in Pakistan, and one of the country's greatest cricketers, Wasim Akram, has had enough.

Wasim Akram’s Harsh Criticism

During a post-match discussion on the show Dressing Room, Wasim Akram strongly criticized the Pakistan team. He accused them of playing an outdated style of cricket, while the rest of the world had moved ahead with a much faster approach to the game.

"Drastic steps are needed. We have been playing the same old-fashioned white-ball cricket for years," Akram said. "This must change. We need fearless players, and young talent in the team. If that means making five or six changes, then do it."

Akram further suggested that Pakistan should focus on building a strong team for the T20 World Cup in 2026, even if it means losing matches for the next six months.

"You might lose matches in the short term, but at least start preparing for the future from now onwards," he added.

Pakistan’s Bowling Struggles

Akram also pointed out worrying statistics about Pakistan's bowling. He highlighted that Pakistan’s bowlers have been struggling to take wickets, making it one of the weakest bowling attacks in recent times.

"Enough is enough. We have made these players stars but look at their performance. In the last five ODIs, Pakistan bowlers have taken only 24 wickets at an average of 60 runs per wicket," he said.

He went on to reveal a shocking statistic:

"Pakistan’s bowling average is even worse than Oman and USA. Out of the 14 teams playing ODIs, Pakistan has the second-worst bowling average."

Akram Blames PCB and Team Selection

Akram did not hold back from criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the selection committee, and the team’s head coach. He questioned their decision-making, especially after they had promised that Pakistan would ‘surprise’ India in the Champions Trophy match.

"Chairman Saab, please call the captain, selection committee, and coach and ask them what kind of team selection they have done," Akram demanded.

He also questioned the inclusion of certain players.

"Did Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha ever look like wicket-taking bowlers?" he asked. "I have been saying for weeks that this squad is not good enough, but the chairman kept saying they have selected the best team."

Rizwan Also Held Responsible

Akram did not spare Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan either. He believes Rizwan should also take responsibility for the team’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy.

"A day before the tournament, they had a long meeting, but they still picked the same squad," Akram said. "Even the captain (Rizwan) is to blame. He is the leader of the team. If he doesn’t even know what kind of match-winners he needs, then it’s embarrassing."

Akram also shared the disappointment of Pakistani fans who attended the match in Dubai.

"You should have seen the faces of Pakistan fans at the stadium. They left after just 15 overs when Pakistan was bowling," he said.

Pakistan’s performance in the Champions Trophy has once again raised serious concerns about the future of the team. With such criticism coming from legends like Wasim Akram, major changes might be on the way for Pakistan cricket.
