The match started poorly for Mohammedan SC as they conceded three goals in the first half. Two of the goals came from Subhasish Bose and one from Manvir Singh. To make matters worse, in the injury time of the first half, Mirjalol Kasimov received a red card for a foul on Tom Aldred, leaving Mohammedan SC with just 10 players on the field. In the second half, Singh added another goal, sealing a dominant victory for Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Even though the team lost, Wadoo was still proud of his players' efforts. He explained that playing against a strong team like Mohun Bagan SG was always going to be a challenge. However, he acknowledged that conceding three goals from set-pieces and the red card made it even harder for his team to make a comeback. With only 10 players, the challenge became much greater, but Wadoo felt that the players gave their best. "In the second half, they tried to keep their discipline while defending. They created some chances but couldn’t score. Mohun Bagan SG were the better team today," he said in the post-match interview.
One of the key moments of the match was the red card given to Kasimov, who is one of the team’s best players and top scorers this season. His red card, which came after he kicked Aldred, had a big impact on Mohammedan SC’s attacking chances. Wadoo expressed his disappointment, saying the red card could have been avoided. "I was not expecting that. You want to play for the team and avoid mistakes like that. Playing against Mohun Bagan SG with 10 men is difficult for any team, not just ours," he said.
After the loss, Mohammedan SC’s position in the league is worrying. They are still at the bottom of the table, with 11 defeats, which is the most along with Hyderabad FC. Although they had managed to stay unbeaten since the start of the year, winning one out of three matches, they have now suffered back-to-back losses. Wadoo admitted that his players are lacking motivation and that they need to improve in this area as they prepare for the remaining matches of the season.
"We try to motivate the players during training, but we need to work more on their motivation. The players seem a little down. We need to focus on our training sessions, but we also need to talk to the players outside of practice. This season has been tough for us, but we can’t keep thinking about what went wrong in past games. We need to focus on the upcoming matches, give our best, and finish the season on a high note," Wadoo concluded.
