Virat Kohli, along with vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, caught everyone’s attention during a team meeting on Thursday. Rohit Sharma and all the other players stood around him, listening carefully as Kohli spoke with great energy and emotion. Kohli, who used to be the leader in such team meetings during his captaincy, once again took the lead. The team had faced a tough 10-wicket loss in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, and they needed some strong words to lift their spirits. Kohli, being one of the most experienced players, decided to guide the team, especially the younger players, as they prepared for the important third Test.
Even though Kohli stepped down as captain, this time he felt it was important to speak up. The team meetings before practice have been a tradition for years, and Kohli used this moment to encourage his teammates. Rohit, who is under a lot of pressure after four back-to-back defeats, listened quietly, trusting Kohli’s advice.

Rohit worked hard in the practice session as well. He looked much better compared to his form before the Adelaide Test. However, questions remain about whether he will open the innings or continue batting at number six, which is not his usual position. During the nets, Rohit started by facing a slightly older ball before moving on to a brand-new red ball. The Gabba pitch, with its green grass and support for fast bowlers, will be a big test for him. Rohit has struggled more with swinging deliveries than with bouncy balls, so this match will be a challenge. After his practice session, Rohit had a long chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir. The two seemed to be discussing batting techniques, with Gambhir showing a few shadow batting moves while Rohit paid close attention.
On the bowling side, Akash Deep was one of the best performers during practice. He bowled well and even troubled Yashasvi Jaiswal, earning praise from Rohit. However, young bowler Harshit Rana, who did well in his first Test in Perth but struggled in Adelaide, is also in the running. Harshit’s ability to bowl fast and heavy balls could work well on the Gabba pitch, which is known for its lively bounce. But his energy tends to drop in later spells, which is a concern. Gambhir still supports Harshit strongly, but Akash’s good performance in practice gives the team another strong option. The weather might also play a role, as rain and high humidity are expected, making conditions favorable for fast bowlers.
The team also has to make a tough choice about which spinner to pick. Washington Sundar is a good batsman as well as a bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin is the most skilled spinner, and Ravindra Jadeja can do both batting and bowling effectively. Ashwin bowled decently in Adelaide, and if Mohammed Siraj hadn’t dropped an important catch off his bowling, his stats would have looked even better. The Gabba pitch has always been a challenging place for spinners, but someone like Ashwin or Jadeja could still make a big impact.
As the team prepares for the third Test starting on Saturday, everyone is focused on doing better. Kohli’s inspiring words, Rohit’s hard work in practice, and the team’s careful planning will all play a big role in how they perform. The players are determined to leave their Adelaide loss behind and give their best in the upcoming match.
