UAE intensifies efforts to eradicate mosquitoes following rainfall

In response to recent heavy rainfall, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) in the UAE has announced plans to escalate efforts in eradicating mosquito breeding grounds and minimizing mosquito infestation across the nation. This intensified campaign, part of the third phase of the Anti-Mosquito Campaign, involves collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Health Services (EHS) to raise awareness about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and preventive measures.

Utilizing cutting-edge international technologies, the ministry aims to control mosquitoes in areas prone to infestation, particularly stagnant water pools where mosquitoes proliferate. Residents are encouraged to assist in mosquito control efforts by reporting sightings or breeding locations to the MoCCAE call center. These locations include various settings such as construction sites, schools, farms, parks, and residential areas, all susceptible to mosquito breeding due to water accumulation.

Residents are advised to eliminate stagnant water sources in their vicinity, including irrigation basins, swimming pools, and fountains, to limit mosquito breeding. The ministry assures that all materials used in mosquito control are safe for humans and animals. Repairing water leaks and maintaining cleanliness in rainwater accumulation areas are emphasized as crucial steps in mosquito prevention.

Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MoCCAE, underscores the ministry's commitment to providing comprehensive information and support to the community through various communication channels. Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Centre at NCEMA, highlights the importance of national collaboration in addressing health hazards and safeguarding society.

This concerted effort is part of the ongoing national anti-mosquito campaign initiated by MoCCAE in February 2022 and is scheduled to continue until May 2025. Through proactive measures and community engagement, the UAE aims to effectively manage mosquito-related challenges and ensure the well-being of its residents.
