UAE Considers Banning Popular Food Preservative

During a recent session of the Federal National Council (FNC) in the UAE, Dr. Amna Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, addressed concerns regarding the use of hydrogenated oils in the country's food industry. These oils, commonly used by food manufacturers to prolong shelf life, are under scrutiny due to their associated health risks.

Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the potential dangers posed by hydrogenated oils and emphasized the need for regulatory action. She revealed that the National Committee for Food Safety has already made progress in approving a ban on these oils.

To facilitate the transition, the ministry plans to provide a grace period for food establishments across the nation to adjust to the proposed ban and meet specified standards. Additionally, the implementation of the ban will be closely monitored by relevant authorities to ensure compliance and safeguard public health
