President-elect Donald Trump has officially announced the key members of his senior leadership team at the Treasury Department. These individuals will work closely with Scott Bessent, Trump's choice for Treasury secretary, as the administration prepares to tackle major tax policy initiatives.

Ken Kies has been named assistant secretary for tax policy, making him the lead figure at the Treasury on tax-related matters. Kies is well-known in Republican circles as a seasoned tax lobbyist. Over the years, he has represented high-profile clients, including Microsoft Corporation, insurance companies, and financial service groups. As Trump pushes forward with plans to implement significant tax cuts, Kies will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing these policies.

Trump has highlighted tax cuts as a cornerstone of his agenda for 2025. His proposals include cutting taxes for corporations and eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security payments. These ambitious plans could bring significant changes to the tax system but may also add trillions of dollars to the national deficit. Additionally, Republicans are under pressure to address a year-end deadline to extend tax cuts passed during Trump’s first term. Without action from Congress, taxes on many households and small businesses could increase next year.

Samantha Schwab, the granddaughter of billionaire Charles Schwab, will serve as deputy chief of staff. Schwab brings prior experience from Trump’s first administration, where she worked in the office of legislative affairs. She will report to Daniel Katz, the newly appointed chief of staff. Katz, a senior adviser at the Treasury during Trump’s first term, is a seasoned expert from the Manhattan Institute think tank. Samantha Schwab’s appointment comes after her grandfather, Charles Schwab, made a $1 million contribution to Trump’s 2017 inaugural fundraising committee.

Cora Alvi, a key figure in Trump’s presidential campaign as a national deputy finance director, has also been appointed as a deputy chief of staff. Her experience in campaign financing is expected to strengthen the department’s strategic operations.

Trump also announced that Alexandra Preate will take on the role of senior counselor to the Treasury secretary. Additionally, Hunter McMaster has been named director of policy planning. Hunter McMaster, a nephew of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, adds a personal connection to the team. Governor McMaster is a prominent Trump fundraiser and supporter.

With the new team in place, Trump’s administration aims to deliver on its ambitious tax policy goals. The upcoming months will test their ability to navigate the political landscape, address impending deadlines, and implement sweeping changes to the tax code. This leadership group will play a critical role in shaping the financial and economic future of the country.
