During the opening ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan toured the expansive fairgrounds, which host approximately 1,350 publishers hailing from 90 countries. The theme of this year's edition, "Where the World’s Tales Unfold," encapsulates the spirit of the event.

His Highness keenly explored the diverse array of local, Arab, and international publications on display, engaging with exhibitors to glean insights and gauge their expectations for future editions of the fair.

Accompanying His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were esteemed dignitaries including Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture and Youth; Sarah Al Musallam, Minister of State for Early Education and Chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge; Neveen El Kilany, Minister of Culture in Egypt; Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi; Dr Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre; Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Arabic Language Centre Executive Director and Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair; Sharif Mahmoud Said Eissa, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the UAE; and Ayesha Eid Almazrouei, Director of Book Fairs and Events Department at ALC.

Throughout the tour, His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited various pavilions, including the Guest of Honour pavilion, dedicated to Egypt this year, and paid homage to renowned Egyptian author and novelist Naguib Mahfouz, the Focus Personality of the fair.

Additionally, His Highness explored innovative activities and events hosted by the ADIBF, including the Saudi podcast Thmanyah platform, the Arts Corner, and a special section catering to children and youth. Noteworthy additions to this year's fair include the Azbakeya Wall platform, reminiscent of the historic Azbakeya Wall Book Market in Egypt, marking the initiation of the Popular Book Markets programme at the ADIBF.

The ADIBF serves as a global cultural extravaganza celebrating print and digital literary content, facilitating networking opportunities for publishers worldwide, and promoting Arabic as a language of culture, science, and creativity on the global stage.

This year's edition of the ADIBF boasts an enriched programme featuring literary and artistic workshops, live musical performances, film screenings, photo exhibitions, and culinary presentations. The fair also offers an array of activities tailored for children and youth, underscoring its commitment to providing enriching experiences for all age groups.

Notably, the ADIBF introduces the "Book of the World" corner, spotlighting influential literary works that have left an indelible mark on world literature. The inaugural edition features Kalila wa Dimna by Abdullah ibn al-Muqaffa, coinciding with the art exhibition organized by Louvre Abu Dhabi titled "From Kalīla wa Dimna to La Fontaine: Travelling Through Fables."

Furthermore, the fair pays tribute to Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz as the Focus Personality of the year and celebrates Egypt as the Guest of Honour, underscoring its esteemed cultural legacy and influence on Arab thought and knowledge.

ADIBF 2024 continues to be a melting pot of diverse cultures, with pavilions showcasing the rich literary heritage of countries from around the world. Through its multifaceted cultural and professional programmes, the fair reinforces Abu Dhabi's status as a global hub for Arabic publishing and creative content.
