Summer Tours Offer Inside Look at Buckingham Palace's East Wing and Balmoral Castle Rooms

The British monarchy has announced the temporary opening of previously off-limits areas in two iconic palaces, Buckingham Palace and Balmoral Castle, for summer visitors. The Royal Collection Trust revealed that guided tours of Buckingham Palace's East Wing, including its renowned balcony, will be available to the public for the first time from mid-July to August. This comes after more than five years of renovation works.

The Royal Collection Trust, a department of the Royal Household responsible for managing the public opening of King Charles III's official residences, is offering visitors a chance to explore the East Wing. This section of Buckingham Palace, known for its front facade and historic balcony, has hosted monarchs and royals during public appearances for over a century.

To access the East Wing, visitors must purchase tickets alongside entry to the palace's state rooms, with the combined price set at £75 ($95) for adults.

Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to explore parts of Balmoral Castle in Scotland, a beloved royal residence and the favored retreat of the late Queen Elizabeth II. While previous tours of Balmoral Castle focused on the grounds and gardens, this summer's tours will grant access to several interior rooms. The castle's website promises insights into its history and significance to generations of the royal family.

Tickets for Balmoral Castle tours, priced at £100 or £150 with afternoon tea included, are limited to 40 per day and expected to sell out quickly. Tours conclude in early August, coinciding with the traditional arrival of King Charles III and Queen Camilla for their summer retreat at the estate.

King Charles III recently made a public appearance at Windsor Castle, his first since announcing a cancer diagnosis earlier in the year. While undergoing treatment for unspecified cancer, he temporarily paused all public engagements after the condition was detected during surgery for a benign prostate condition earlier in the year.
