His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended the closing ceremony of the first-ever Al Sharqiya Kalba Rowing Championship 2025. The event was held at Kalba City Beach under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The three-day championship, organized by Al Sharqiya Channel in collaboration with Sharjah Sports Channel and Sharjah Marine Sports Club, was filled with excitement and high energy. A total of 477 sailors took part in the competition, racing in 53 boats. Competitors came from the UAE and other Gulf countries, and the event included two stages and two categories of competition. The championship was widely attended and attracted both official and public interest.
The closing ceremony began with a visual presentation that highlighted the championship's launch and the lively atmosphere surrounding it. During the ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi honored the sponsors and strategic partners from various government organizations for their support in making the event a success.

His Highness also presented awards to the winners of the competition. In the Kingfish Fishing Competition, the winners were as follows:
First place: Abdul Rahim Rashid Al Zayoudi on the boat Tofan
Second place: Saif Sultan Rashid Al Shakhsi Al Zaabi on the boat Aber Al Mawaj
Third place: Saeed Rashid Al Shakhsi on the boat Fath Al Khair
Largest Kingfish: Jamal Mohammed Abdullah Othman Al Naqbi on the boat Al Wahsh
In the Yoder-Tuna Fishing Category, the winners were:
First place: Naif Saeed Saif Al Naqbi on the boat Jumeirah
Second place: Ibrahim Saif Rashid Al Naqbi on the boat Al Ahoub
Third place: Jamal Rashid Al Naqbi on the boat Rabih
Largest Yoder-Tuna fish: Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Al Saadi on the boat Al Hashemi
For the rowing competition in the open category, where participants were GCC citizens, the winners were:
First place: Captain Hamid bin Salem bin Hamid Al Bahri from Oman on the boat Balarab
Second place: Captain Jaber Mohammed Jaber from the UAE on the boat Barq
Third place: Captain Ahmed Ibrahim Al Falasi from the UAE on the boat Gold 1
In the citizens' category of the rowing competition, the winners were:
First place: Captain Hamid Faris Saeed Al Masmari on the boat Al Yah
Second place: Captain Salem Saeed Obaid Al Kandari on the boat Wadi Sahm
Third place: Captain Nasser Ghasib Al Masmari on the boat Al Yah 2
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi also presented Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Kalba, with a special commemorative gift from the event’s organizing committee. Sheikh Haitham also received a souvenir in recognition of his attendance at the closing ceremony and his role in honoring the winners.
After the ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi took a tour of an exhibition held alongside the championship. The exhibition included many special displays in the heritage village, with sections showing marine life and traditional crafts such as the making of gargoor (traditional fishing boats) and shosh (woven fishing baskets). There were also activities and workshops for children to enjoy.
His Highness visited the marine exhibition, which had information about diving suits, marine plants, and other related subjects. He also toured the Hamid Ali Al Zaabi Marine Museum at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage pavilion, as well as the Fishermen's Association pavilion. The visitors enjoyed a tug-of-war demonstration, part of a traditional fish auction, and various children's games. The event also featured traditional artistic performances, including marine chants, Al Ayala (traditional dances), Liwa bands, and war bands, all of which are important parts of Emirati culture.
The Al Sharqiya Kalba Rowing Championship is a new addition to the region’s distinguished competitions and sports traditions. Its goal is to promote traditional marine sports, particularly rowing, and ensure the sport’s continued practice across generations. The championship also aims to highlight the cultural heritage of the Eastern Region of the UAE, offer a unique experience for both the public and marine sports fans, and promote tourism in the region.
The closing ceremony was attended by several important figures, including Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Kalba; Dr. Obaid Saif Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Kalba Municipal Council; Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Sharjah Media Council; and a number of directors from television and sports channels, as well as representatives from sponsoring companies and media organizations.
