Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, also won in straight sets. She faced Veronika Kudermetova, and after a tight first set that was decided by a tie-break, Kenin took control in the second set and won 7-6, 6-2. Kenin will meet Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the next round.
Renata Zarazua also had a strong performance, beating Zeynep Sonmez 6-1, 6-2, and now faces Magda Linette.
