Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Doha for a pivotal meeting with Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, seeking to enhance the enduring and amicable relations between the two nations. This visit marks Modi's second to Qatar as Prime Minister since 2014. It follows a dynamic two-day sojourn in the UAE, where he engaged in diverse activities, addressing the Indian community, participating in the prestigious World Governments Summit, and inaugurating the UAE's inaugural Hindu stone temple.

Anticipating discussions with Emir Sheikh Tamim, Modi underscored Qatar's remarkable growth and transformation under his leadership in a statement before departing from New Delhi. The historical camaraderie between India and Qatar has deepened in recent years, reflecting in multifaceted ties. The announcement of Modi's visit to Qatar coincided with the return of seven out of eight former Indian Navy personnel who were incarcerated in Qatar. They had initially faced a death sentence, later commuted to jail terms ranging from three to 25 years.

While the charges against these individuals were not publicly disclosed, they were released by Qatar. Modi emphasized the substantial Indian community in Doha, exceeding 800,000, as a testament to the robust people-to-people ties between the two nations. Apart from meeting with the Emir, Modi is scheduled to engage with other high-ranking dignitaries in Qatar.

Before departing from the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Saif B Zayed bid Modi a warm farewell, marking the successful conclusion of his visit. Modi expressed gratitude to the UAE for its warm hospitality and highlighted the deepening of India-UAE friendship and cultural connections during his visit. The Prime Minister's departure message conveyed appreciation for being part of various programs that strengthened the friendship and cultural ties between India and the UAE.
