Putrajaya, Malaysia – In a landmark move to strengthen bilateral ties, Pakistan and Malaysia signed six agreements on Monday covering trade, education, tourism, SMEs, Halal certification, and anti-corruption efforts. The accords were formalized during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia, hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The highlight of the visit was a $200 million Halal meat deal, marking Pakistan’s largest export order to Malaysia in this sector. The agreement opens doors to Malaysia’s $3-billion Halal food market and wider ASEAN trade, boosting Pakistan’s livestock and meat processing industries. Officials assured full compliance with Malaysian Halal standards, ensuring quality and market-price stability for exports.

Key agreements included cooperation in diplomatic training, higher education, tourism, SMEs, and anti-corruption measures. The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations and Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy signed a MoU on diplomatic training, while higher education collaboration was agreed upon between Pakistan’s National Food Security Ministry and Malaysia’s Higher Education Ministry.
In tourism, an MoU was signed to promote mutual travel initiatives, and SMEs in both countries will explore joint projects under agreements between Pakistan’s SMEDA and Malaysia’s SME Corporation. Anti-corruption collaboration was strengthened through a pact between Pakistan’s NAB and Malaysia’s MACC, reflecting both nations’ commitment to transparency and good governance.
During a joint press conference, Prime Ministers Shehbaz and Anwar emphasized expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and innovation. Shehbaz described his visit as “like a family reunion,” highlighting the contributions of over 150,000 Pakistanis in Malaysia and expressing Pakistan’s intent to pursue joint projects in AI and economic development.
The visit also reinforced shared stances on regional peace in South Asia and the Middle East, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to stability and collaboration. Shehbaz noted that the agreements not only strengthen economic ties but also lay a foundation for long-term strategic engagement between the two countries.
