Pakistan Advocates Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's Image on Currency notes

Lahore: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) made a significant move on Sunday by adopting a resolution during a seminar titled 'Bhutto Reference and History,' where the focus was on commemorating the legacy of the party's founder, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. The resolution, reported by ARY News on Monday, called upon the federal government to officially recognize Bhutto as a national democratic hero and advocated for his image to be featured on currency notes.

In light of recent developments, particularly the acknowledgment by the Supreme Court regarding the unfairness of Bhutto's trial, the resolution urged the government to bestow upon him the esteemed title of "Quaid-e-Awam" (Leader of the People) and to confer upon him the highest civilian honor, Nishan-e-Pakistan.

The resolution didn't stop there; it also emphasized the need for constructing a monumental tribute in honor of Bhutto and proposed the designation of his mausoleum as a national shrine. Additionally, it called for the rectification of the unjust death sentence imposed on Bhutto and suggested the establishment of the "Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Award" to honor democracy activists who have made significant sacrifices for their cause.

This resolution follows the National Assembly's earlier move in March, where it declared Bhutto's trial as a judicial murder, highlighting the widespread belief in the injustice surrounding Bhutto's conviction.

The culmination of this recent push for justice came with the Supreme Court's announcement of its opinion on the presidential reference concerning the controversial death sentence imposed on Bhutto during General (retired) Ziaul Haq's regime. Led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, a nine-judge bench delivered its verdict, acknowledging the absence of a fair trial for the former prime minister.

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Pakistan's first democratically elected prime minister, was sentenced to death under General Ziaul Haq's rule for the alleged murder of political rival Nawab Mohammed Ahmed Qasuri. Despite international appeals for clemency, Bhutto was executed on April 4, 1979, sparking controversy and condemnation both domestically and internationally.
