Kantara Chapter 1 Smashes Records with ₹151 Crore Worldwide in 2 Days

Kantara Chapter 1 has turned into a festival of its own at the box office. The Rishab Shetty starrer, which released during the Dussehra holiday, has maintained extraordinary momentum even on its first working day, filling theatres across Karnataka and beyond.

The much-anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara opened to a thunderous response, collecting just under ₹90 crore worldwide on day one. While the holiday helped fuel the opening surge in India, the film also performed strongly overseas, proving its wide appeal.

On the second day, despite being a working Friday, the film recorded ₹45 crore net in India, pushing its two-day domestic tally to ₹106.85 crore net (₹128.25 crore gross). In just two days, Kantara Chapter 1 has become the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Su From So (₹92 crore net).

The film’s global pull has been equally remarkable. With over $2.5 million (around ₹22 crore) collected internationally, its worldwide gross has soared to ₹151 crore in just two days. On Friday, it even overtook the lifetime collections of other big recent releases such as Mirai (₹142 crore), Kesari Chapter 2 (₹144 crore), and Sky Force (₹150 crore).

Industry watchers predict the movie will cross the ₹200 crore mark by Saturday and, riding on the wave of strong word-of-mouth, could breach ₹300 crore as early as Monday or Tuesday.

The success of Kantara Chapter 1 carries forward the legacy of the original Kantara, which became a cultural phenomenon in 2022 by grossing over ₹400 crore worldwide on a modest ₹15 crore budget.

Set a thousand years before the events of the first film, the prequel takes audiences deep into the roots of the legend. Rishab Shetty once again leads the narrative, joined by Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles.
