A mysterious illness has affected numerous passengers aboard a US cruise ship, causing vomiting and diarrhea, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday. Since the voyage commenced on January 22 from Florida, at least 123 passengers and 16 crew members on the Queen Victoria have reported falling ill. The cause of the gastrointestinal illness remains unknown, with diarrhea and vomiting being the predominant symptoms.

The CDC stated, "Number of passengers who have reported being ill during the voyage out of total number of passengers onboard: 123 of 1,824 (6.74%)," and "Number of crew who have reported being ill during the voyage out of total number of crew onboard: 16 of 967 (1.65%)."

In response to the outbreak, the CDC mentioned that the Cunard Cruise Line ship had isolated affected passengers and crew, implementing heightened cleaning and disinfection procedures as per the ship's outbreak prevention and response plan. The health agency's Vessel Sanitation Program is actively monitoring the situation onboard.

The reported gastrointestinal cases encompass the entire voyage and do not represent the number of active symptomatic cases at any given port or disembarkation, clarified the CDC.

The Queen Victoria ship embarked on a 16-night journey from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 22, with scheduled stops in San Francisco on February 7 and Honolulu five days later, according to the New York Post.

This incident follows recent reports of passengers on a Florida-based cruise ship experiencing an unknown illness resembling gastroenteritis. Some passengers reported stomach flu symptoms, with one mentioning bright blue vomit, raising concerns about potential poisoning.
