In Singapore, a former instructor, Kenneth Loh Jiahui, has been sentenced to jail for showing pornographic clip to a 12-year-old student. According to a report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the incident occurred last year when Jiahui, who was subsequently dismissed from his position at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College East, followed the student into an apartment elevator. In this encounter, he showed the young boy an explicit video.
Following the filing of a case against him and his subsequent guilty plea, Jiahui revealed in court that he engaged in this behavior to observe the boy's reaction. The identity of the student has been kept confidential to protect his privacy.
Jiahui's actions were detailed in court documents. He allegedly followed the boy from a bus stop to the elevator lobby of a nearby apartment. Taking out his mobile device, Jiahui quickly accessed a pornographic website. Upon entering the elevator, he proceeded to show the explicit video to the boy while smiling. Jiahui even asked the student if he had previously watched such content, prompting the boy to shake his head and turn away. Despite this, Jiahui persisted, extending his arm around the boy's shoulder to continue the inappropriate display.
The uncomfortable situation ended when the elevator reached Jiahui's floor, and the student hastily exited. Upon reaching home, the boy reported the incident to his mother, who subsequently contacted the police. The authorities identified Jiahui through CCTV footage and subsequently arrested him.
As a consequence of his actions, Jiahui was sentenced to five months and two weeks in jail. The case highlights the importance of safeguarding the well-being and privacy of students, and the legal system's commitment to holding individuals accountable for inappropriate behavior.
