Emiliano Grillo hits hole-in-one as Thomas Detry leads WM Phoenix Open

Emiliano Grillo made the crowd go wild with an amazing hole-in-one on the famous 16th hole at the WM Phoenix Open. During the second round, he hit a perfect 155-yard shot that landed on the green, bounced a few times, rolled around the hole, and then dropped in. The fans in the stadium-style stands cheered loudly, throwing beer and drinks into the air in excitement. It was the first hole-in-one on this hole since 2022 when Sam Ryder and Carlos Ortiz did it. Grillo was so happy that he ran around the tee box, celebrating with his caddie and playing partners, Rafael Campos and Seamus Power. His great play, including a two-under-par 69 for the round, helped him reach a total score of two under, just enough to make the cut for the next rounds.

Even though Grillo's shot was the most exciting moment, Thomas Detry quietly took the lead with an excellent seven-under-par 64, bringing his total score to 12 under. Detry also came very close to making a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, as his ball landed only two feet from the hole before he made a birdie. He played well, making eight birdies in total, with three in a row starting from the ninth hole. He finished strong with two more birdies, securing his position at the top of the leaderboard as the weekend rounds approach.

Right behind him, Alex Smalley and Michael Kim are at 10 under, while Tom Kim, Jordan Spieth, and Christiaan Bezuidenhout are one shot behind at nine under. Spieth had a great round, making two eagles on the 13th and 15th holes, keeping himself in the competition. Justin Thomas is among five players at eight under, while world number one Scottie Scheffler is at seven under after playing a mistake-free round of five-under-par 66. Scheffler returned to the game after recovering from a hand injury he got while making Christmas dinner. He played well and still has a strong chance to win.

With two more rounds left, the tournament is still open, and the weekend promises more exciting golf as the best players fight for victory in front of the loud and energetic Phoenix crowd.
