Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Atty, recently received a delegation from the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic and trade relations between Egypt and Brazil, according to a statement from Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamam Khallaf.

During the discussions, Abdel Atty expressed Egypt's gratitude for the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce's decision to establish its regional office in Cairo, which officially opened in September 2022. He praised the office's role in facilitating trade between Egypt, Brazil, and other Latin American nations, particularly in boosting Egyptian exports to Brazil.

The minister reviewed the current state of bilateral relations, emphasizing the progress made since the visit of Brazilian President Lula da Silva to Egypt in February 2024. During this visit, both countries agreed to elevate their relationship to a "strategic partnership." Abdel Atty also mentioned his recent meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, which took place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia, as a further indication of the strengthening ties between the two nations.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Minister Abdel Atty underscored the priority the ministry places on supporting investment, trade, and the national economy. He discussed the Egyptian government’s efforts to attract foreign direct investment and expressed hope for enhanced economic and trade relations with Brazil, which is Egypt's primary trading partner in Latin America.

Abdel Atty highlighted the need to increase trade volume in the coming period to better reflect the strong relationship between the two countries and to maximize the benefits from the free trade agreement between Egypt and the Mercosur countries—Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Additionally, the minister acknowledged the significant role of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in expanding areas of cooperation. He pointed out that future collaborations could include sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, livestock, tourism, information technology, oil, natural gas, and fisheries. This broadening of cooperation aims to enhance mutual benefits and foster sustainable development between Egypt and Brazil.
