Egypt has made significant strides in developing modern infrastructure to improve the quality of life for its citizens and support the country’s sustainable development initiatives, according to Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation. She made these comments during a roundtable discussion on global housing finance strategies, which was part of the 12th World Urban Forum.

Mashat highlighted the Egyptian government’s strong commitment to integrating the private sector into developmental projects, emphasizing that it is a key partner in driving national growth. She underscored that the success of sustainable development in Egypt depends on collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to meet national development goals.

The minister stressed the importance of urban project financing and Egypt’s ongoing partnership with the World Bank to address challenges related to funding, particularly with regard to climate change. She pointed out that investment in new urban cities is vital for meeting Egypt’s sustainable development objectives. "We are fully committed to fulfilling our local commitments to meet global goals," Mashat declared.

Mashat also highlighted the need for securing diverse sources of funding to build attractive urban communities. She emphasized that fostering partnerships between national and international stakeholders is critical to achieving development goals. The minister stressed that Egypt’s progress in meeting its national targets must also align with its global responsibilities.

One of the key areas of focus for the Egyptian government is urban development. Mashat pointed to Egypt’s significant investments in infrastructure projects such as the metro system and urban transportation networks. She also noted the government’s continuous efforts to encourage private sector involvement in the construction and development of urban spaces, especially as the country seeks to address the growing demand for sustainable urban solutions.

Additionally, Mashat called attention to the global funding gap in construction, which presents a significant barrier to achieving ambitious urban development goals. She urged for international legislation that would secure financing for creating sustainable urban cities, emphasizing the role of renewable resources in promoting modern urban concepts.

The minister also outlined Egypt’s comprehensive efforts to support city sustainability, promote the green economy, and integrate more green projects into the country’s economic and social development plans. These efforts are in line with the government’s broader commitment to ensuring that development projects drive both sustainability and inclusive growth across the country.

Finally, Mashat reiterated the importance of securing adequate financing to ensure the success of these projects. She emphasized that without the necessary financial resources, it would be impossible to implement and sustain the ambitious strategies and plans needed to achieve the country's development goals.
