Dubai Municipality has announced a phased increase in sewerage tariffs, marking the first adjustment in a decade, as part of its ongoing mission to enhance service quality and efficiency across the emirate. This updated sewerage fee structure will be implemented over the next three years, gradually applying to all current customers in areas managed by the Municipality who already contribute sewerage fees.

This new structure aligns with the strategic objectives of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, designed to address the needs of a rapidly growing population. Dubai’s exceptional economic growth, coupled with a significant increase in population, has placed considerable demand on essential infrastructure. The revised tariff structure aims to support the municipality’s efforts in developing and maintaining essential infrastructure that can keep pace with the city's expanding population and the needs of its diverse, dynamic economy. By 2040, Dubai’s population is projected to reach 7.8 million, reinforcing the necessity for sustainable urban services that support both residents and visitors.
Under the revised plan, sewerage fees for residential and commercial users will be raised gradually, beginning in 2025 and completing in 2027. The fees will start at 1.5 fils per gallon in 2025, rise to 2 fils per gallon in 2026, and finally reach 2.8 fils per gallon in 2027. Even with these increases, the revised rates will remain well below the global average, including in cities with comparable economic standing and high quality of life.
Beyond the need to fund infrastructure development, Dubai Municipality has stated that this initiative supports broader sustainability objectives. The incremental fee increases are intended to encourage water conservation, a crucial factor in ensuring the long-term availability of the emirate’s water resources. Through this approach, the municipality hopes to foster a culture of mindful water usage among residents and businesses, supporting sustainable practices that contribute to Dubai’s resilience as a leading global city.
As Dubai continues to solidify its position as a world-class destination to live, work, and visit, its infrastructure must grow accordingly. This sewerage fee adjustment reflects the municipality’s commitment to building a sustainable, future-ready urban landscape that can meet the evolving needs of its residents and visitors well into the future.
