The Dubai Stand Up Paddle event, presented by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), returned to the stunning Hatta Dam yesterday, achieving record-breaking participation with 2,330 attendees. This second edition of the popular event has quickly become a highlight of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), showcasing the region's dedication to promoting health and fitness.

The turnout nearly doubled from the inaugural event, which attracted 1,000 participants last year, reflecting the growing interest in paddleboarding among both seasoned enthusiasts and newcomers. The event catered to individuals of all ages and skill levels, providing a day filled with activities designed to enhance fitness and foster community spirit.

Among the activities offered were adult and family training sessions led by certified coaches, mass participation challenges, and the introduction of free kayaking sessions, which allowed attendees to explore the waters while enjoying the breathtaking views of Hatta's mountainous landscape. As the day came to a close, participants enjoyed a tranquil sunset yoga session on the water, providing a moment of relaxation and connection with nature.

His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed his excitement about the event's success, stating, “This year’s Dubai Stand Up Paddle not only met but exceeded expectations. The record turnout clearly demonstrates our community's commitment to maintaining active lifestyles. This event continues to grow, and I am eager to see its evolution in the coming years.”

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the event encapsulated the spirit of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. “It united a diverse mix of participants in a day filled with health, happiness, and community spirit at one of the UAE’s most picturesque outdoor venues. Our goal is to inspire everyone, both locals and visitors, to integrate physical activity into their daily lives, extending the impact of the Dubai Fitness Challenge year-round.”

A new feature of this year’s event was the Hatta Kayak sessions, which were offered for free, allowing participants to engage in various water sports. The SUP challenge sessions also attracted many paddlers eager to showcase their skills and foster camaraderie within the community. With cooler temperatures and serene waters, attendees were able to refine their paddleboarding techniques under expert guidance.

As the sun set, the yoga sessions provided a peaceful end to a day filled with adventure, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Hatta mountains. Participants were also encouraged to explore additional outdoor activities in Hatta, including spear throwing, air rifle shooting, and an exclusive offer for friends and family to enjoy the various attractions.

The event featured extended hours for archery, wall climbing, and the Hatta Aerial Adventure Park, along with thrilling experiences such as the Twin Zipline and Drop-In activities available until sunset. Food trucks lined the area, offering a diverse selection of culinary delights from local favourites to international cuisine, ensuring attendees remained energized throughout the day.

For those looking to make a weekend of their adventure, camping zones, hotels, Airbnbs, and BBQ rentals were readily available, enhancing the overall experience.

The Dubai Stand Up Paddle event was organized by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and presented by the RTA. The event also featured partnerships with Hatta and Hatta Kayak, with support from various government and official partners, including the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, Ministry of Education, and the Events Security Committee.

This successful event highlights Dubai's commitment to fostering a culture of fitness and community engagement, setting a precedent for future events in the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
