Dubai RTA Cautions Motorists on Dangers of Drowsy Driving

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is emphasizing the importance of road safety during Ramadan, urging motorists to be cautious while driving, especially when feeling fatigued due to fasting. Recognizing the potential impact of fasting on drivers' concentration levels, RTA has launched an extensive awareness campaign aimed at providing essential driving tips throughout the holy month.

This initiative is part of RTA's annual traffic awareness activities, aligning with Dubai's traffic safety strategy. Highlighting the significance of alertness behind the wheel, RTA aims to educate drivers about the risks associated with drowsy driving, particularly during Ramadan when changes in eating and sleeping habits can affect motorists' attentiveness.

Collaborating with the Ministry of Interior and other traffic safety stakeholders, RTA has approved various awareness activities for Ramadan. These efforts encompass disseminating safety messages across multiple platforms, including field activities and social media channels. Banners at iftar tents and distribution of awareness leaflets further extend the reach of safety guidance to pedestrians, drivers, and other road users.

Moreover, RTA has adjusted the timings of truck bans on key routes in Dubai during Ramadan to enhance traffic flow and safety. By modifying the ban timings, RTA aims to minimize congestion and ensure smoother traffic operations, particularly during peak hours.

In addition to addressing logistical aspects, RTA also provides practical tips for drivers to navigate safely during Ramadan. These include avoiding driving immediately after consuming large meals, maintaining patience and focus while driving, anticipating congestion, refraining from disputes with other motorists, and considering public transportation alternatives if fasting significantly affects concentration or stress levels.

Dubai’s #RTA called on motorists to avoid driving while feeling exhausted or drowsy, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, when the attentiveness of some motorists drops due to the change in eating and sleeping habits.
