Dubai, Abu Dhabi: Dh2,000 Fine for Head Out of Sunroof, Windows

Dubai and Abu Dhabi police have issued warnings against allowing passengers to protrude their heads from sunroofs or sit on windows of moving vehicles. The advisories were prompted by a series of accidents last year causing injuries to individuals who fell from moving vehicles.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasized the severe risks posed not only to the individuals involved but also to the lives of other road users. Offenders face stringent penalties under the Federal Traffic Law, including a 60-day vehicle impoundment, a Dh2,000 fine, and 23 traffic points. The release of an impounded vehicle can cost up to Dh50,000.

Abu Dhabi Police's Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols echoed the call for motorists to comply with traffic rules and police instructions. Al Mazrouei underscored that sitting on windows or protruding heads from moving vehicle roofs poses severe hazards, especially during sudden stops or collisions. Such behaviors can also endanger oncoming traffic, leading to more accidents.

Emphasizing the shared responsibility in reducing traffic accidents, Al Mazrouei urged public cooperation, adherence to traffic laws, and the adoption of positive behaviors for road safety. The General Directorate of Traffic recorded 1,183 violations in Dubai last year, resulting in the impoundment of 707 vehicles
