Charlie Appleby further solidified his remarkable presence at the Dubai Racing Carnival by claiming a hat-trick of victories on Friday. In a surprising turn of events, Naval Power, the second-string in Appleby's arsenal, emerged victorious in the featured Singspiel Stakes (G2) presented by Longines. This triumph was particularly unexpected given Naval Power's 13-month absence from racing.
Under the skilled guidance of jockey Mickael Barzalona, Naval Power delivered an impressive performance. Barzalona, who also piloted English Rose to victory in the Group 2 Balanchine for fillies and mares earlier in the evening, showcased his exceptional riding skills. The Godolphin team, led by Appleby, expressed surprise at Naval Power's win, considering he was not even nominated for the Dubai Turf.
Speaking about Naval Power's unexpected success, Appleby mentioned the possibility of supplementing him for future events, indicating a potential international campaign. The trainer hinted at the likelihood of sending Naval Power to race in America, citing the gelding's enjoyment of similar tracks and his suitability for international competitions.
English Rose, another triumph for Appleby on the night, showed mental progress according to the trainer. After being a bit keen in her first outing, she settled well in the Balanchine. Appleby mentioned considering a plan for the filly, with a potential trip to America for the Keeneland meet in April alongside Cape Verdi winner Silver Lady.
The historic achievement of the night came when Siskany secured his tenth career win in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy. This victory allowed Siskany to win the contest for the second time and earned him a ticket to the 3200-meter Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup. Siskany had finished second in the Dubai Gold Cup the previous year, and Appleby aims for redemption in the upcoming edition.
In summary, Appleby's dominant night at the Dubai Racing Carnival included unexpected success with Naval Power, mental progress for English Rose, and the historic tenth win for Siskany, setting the stage for potential international campaigns and future successes.
