Al Ain residents prepare for rain, hail with cardboard, yoga mats.

With memories of previous hailstorms still vivid, residents of Al Ain in the UAE are taking proactive measures to protect their vehicles ahead of forecasted heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms this weekend. Recalling the significant damage caused during past storms, such as dented car hoods and shattered windows, residents are leaving nothing to chance. Semeer Moyin, a resident, recounted the substantial financial loss suffered by his neighbor due to hail damage, prompting everyone to exercise extra caution this time around. Moyin and his neighbors have improvised makeshift shields using materials like cardboard boxes, yoga mats, and carpets to safeguard their vehicles.

The anticipation of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail from Friday evening to Sunday noon has put residents on high alert, with preparations underway to minimize potential damage. Heba Hussain, a recent transplant from Abu Dhabi, described the previous rainfall as an unsettling experience, leading her to take proactive measures this time. Hussain plans to keep her cars in the basement to shield them from inclement weather, ensuring her husband works remotely to avoid any travel complications. While some residents lack basement parking, they've resorted to covering their vehicles as a precautionary measure.

Hospital worker Semeer anticipates a demanding weekend ahead, with management preparing for potential emergencies by ensuring adequate staffing. Despite the potential for damage, Semeer acknowledges the beauty of the aftermath, reminiscing about driving around the city with his family after the last storm. Now, with preparations in place, residents hope to enjoy the anticipated view of the transformed landscape without the worry of costly repercussions. Hussain emphasizes the community's readiness this time, reflecting on how previous experiences have prompted better preparedness among residents for the impending inclement weather.
