Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW) recently honored amazing people and groups from all around the world for their creative work in improving health. The winners of the ADGHW Innovation Awards 2025 were recognized for their groundbreaking ideas in digital health, biotechnology, and diagnostics. They were awarded global praise and shared a prize fund of US$200,000.

A total of 91 entries were submitted from both local and international individuals and organizations. The ADGHW Innovation Awards, supported by e& and PureHealth, invited projects that focused on solving important health problems through digital health, biotechnology, medical devices, and diagnostics. After a careful review, winners were chosen by a panel of global health experts and leaders in technology.
One of the winners in the Individual Category was Dr. Ardem Patapoutian, a Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine, for his research at the Scripps Research Institute. He discovered new ways to understand how pain works in our bodies, which could help create better treatments for chronic pain and nerve pain. His work is important in the fields of personalized medicine and brain science.
Other people in this category who were also honored include Hesham A. Abdullah from GSK, recognized for his cancer research, and Kourosh Lotfi from Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City for his work in using 3D printing to create personalized treatments.
In the Global Institute Category, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania shared the award. The Children’s Hospital was recognized for creating new ways to edit genes before birth, while the University of Pennsylvania was praised for its work on mRNA technology, which is used to make vaccines.
Other finalists in this category included Children’s National Hospital for its AI-powered tool to help doctors diagnose strep infections in kids, Eli Lilly and Company for their new treatment for obesity, and Neo Q Quality in Imaging GmbH for their work in improving radiology reporting with new technology.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre was awarded in the Regional Institute Category for using robots to help with organ transplant surgeries. This new technology makes surgeries more accurate, helps patients recover faster, and sets new standards for transplant care, both in the Middle East and globally.
In the Local Institute Category, BioSapien Inc. won for their MediChip, a device that helps deliver medicine directly to specific parts of the body, reducing side effects and improving treatment. This technology is a big step forward in personalized healthcare.
Other finalists in this category included New York University Abu Dhabi for their platform to help diagnose and treat multiple sclerosis, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City for its osteoporosis screening project, and EpiBone for their use of AI to create living bone implants for better bone repair.
The award ceremony was attended by key figures like Dr. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health (DoH), who talked about how important these awards are in recognizing new ideas and helping healthcare move forward. The ceremony also included leaders from around the world, such as Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hasan, the Health Minister of Bahrain, and His Excellency Dr. Mikheil Sarjveladze, Health Minister of Georgia.
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, spoke about how happy they were to honor these innovators and how their work is changing the global health field. She explained that by celebrating these achievements, we are creating a healthier future for everyone.
The submissions were carefully judged based on creativity, impact, and how easy they are to spread and continue. The judging process was overseen by a group of experts in healthcare, digital health, and policy, including Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei and Professor Shafi Ahmed.
Lina Shadid, from PwC, said that the ADGHW Innovation Awards show how powerful working together can be in solving health problems. She also mentioned how Abu Dhabi is helping support projects that move healthcare forward.
For the first time, an AI assistant was used to help with the review process. It helped the judges spot patterns and gave additional insights, showing how technology can make the judging process fair and clear.
ADGHW is a big project run by the Department of Health (DoH), aimed at encouraging collaboration and new ideas in healthcare. The theme of the event, "Towards Longevity: Redefining Health and Well-being," focuses on improving health through prevention, personalization, and holistic care. The awards highlight Abu Dhabi’s commitment to creating a space where new healthcare ideas can grow and help make the world healthier.
