The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) has introduced the Dual Healthcare Program in collaboration with Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS) and Applied Technology Schools (ATS). This pioneering initiative allows high-achieving students from ATS across the UAE to enroll in healthcare courses at FCHS during their secondary education. These courses will count as accredited hours towards health-related degrees at FCHS, providing a seamless transition for students into higher education in the healthcare sector.
The Dual Healthcare Program, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, targets 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the health sciences curriculum at ATS. By participating in this program, students can take courses that will be waived upon their enrollment at FCHS, effectively accelerating their academic and career progression in the healthcare field. This initiative aligns with ACTVET’s mission to empower young UAE Nationals and support sectors vital to the country's sustainable development.

His Excellency Dr. Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Director General of ACTVET, emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative: "Investing in young national talents and empowering them to work in vital sectors is at the forefront of our priorities. This direction reflects the wise leadership's vision in Abu Dhabi, which aims to enhance citizens' contribution to sustainable development efforts. The role of partnerships and the importance of working with a team spirit are highlighted, as they have become indispensable elements for success in preparing a generation of highly skilled and productive individuals."
The Dual Healthcare Program is part of ACTVET’s broader efforts to foster educational excellence and innovation. It supports a smooth transition for students from high school to college and underscores the importance of partnerships in achieving these goals.
The pilot phase of the program commenced in January 2024 at ATS. Spanning 16 weeks, the program offers three courses: Fundamentals of Nursing, Health and Wellbeing, and Communication Skills for Healthcare Professionals. Each course provides three credited hours and is taught at FCHS branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, or Ajman, following the students' regular school hours.
This program offers students a valuable opportunity to enhance their educational experience, develop essential skills, and build a robust foundation for college. It also aims to help students adapt to university life and encourages more UAE National talents to pursue careers in the healthcare sector, thus contributing to the nation’s sustainable development.
The initiative exemplifies ACTVET's commitment to advancing education and supporting the professional growth of young UAE Nationals, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare industry and contribute effectively to the community.
