The Department of Community Development (DCD), with help from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, shared the results of their third yearly sports and activity survey.
This new survey shows that more people in Abu Dhabi are moving their bodies, playing sports, and staying healthy. Over 28,000 people answered the questions in the survey. That’s 45% more than last year. The survey helps leaders understand how people in Abu Dhabi are doing with exercise, and it helps them make better plans for health and fitness.

The results showed that 53 out of every 100 people now do enough exercise, as advised by the World Health Organization. This is better than last year’s 50 out of 100, and much better than the first survey’s 36 out of 100.
Children and teenagers are also getting more active. Now, 12.5 out of every 100 young people do at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. Last time, it was 11 out of 100.
Not only are people doing more daily exercise, but more are also joining group sports and fun events. In 2024, Abu Dhabi held 145 sports events, with people from 122 countries joining. Around 481,300 people took part in these events. That’s 33% more than in 2023.
Mr. Mohammed Al Blooshi, a leader at DCD, said these numbers show that Abu Dhabi is doing well in helping people live healthier lives. He thanked the teamwork between the government and private groups for building good places to walk, cycle, and play. He also said it’s good that older people and people with special needs can now join fun fitness programs too.
Mr. Al Blooshi added that Abu Dhabi is now becoming a popular place for big sports events. He said the growing number of people joining shows that the plans are working. Also, more sports places and easy access to fitness have helped people make exercise a part of their everyday life.
Mr. Ahmed Al Hosani, another leader from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the survey is helping them understand how much people are moving and playing. He said the results are helpful in planning fun programs for all people to enjoy fitness.
He also said this third survey gave better and clearer numbers to help the government know what sports events are working well in different areas of Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Al Hosani said that more people are now active, which shows that Abu Dhabi’s ideas to help people live better and move more are working well. This also matches the big dream of the Abu Dhabi Government—to build a strong, active, and happy community.
Abu Dhabi is also following the health tips of the World Health Organization. These tips say adults should do at least 150 minutes of light exercise or 75 minutes of hard exercise each week.
With more events, better places to play, and strong support, Abu Dhabi is getting closer to being one of the best places in the world for health, movement, and happy living.
