Abu Dhabi is taking big steps to become a global leader in health and science. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) have signed an important agreement with Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC), New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), and UAE University (UAEU) to develop a new project called the Health, Endurance, Longevity, and Medicine (HELM) cluster.

The HELM cluster is a special plan to make Abu Dhabi a top place for developing new medical technologies and health solutions. This will help the emirate grow its economy and create 30,000 new jobs by 2045. Experts believe that the HELM cluster will help make Abu Dhabi an important center for research in life sciences, health technology, and medicine.

The announcement was made during the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGW). This partnership brings together important research centers and universities to help create a place where new ideas and inventions can grow. This will allow for faster research, better products, and more opportunities for growth in the health field.

Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said that the HELM cluster will help change how healthcare works. She explained that the project will bring together research, real-world use, and rules to create a place where new ideas can grow and help people. She added that this plan makes Abu Dhabi a leader in the world for health and science.

As part of the agreement, the partners will work together to create a clear system to support companies and research centers in the HELM cluster. This system will help businesses create products and sell them around the world while removing barriers that slow down progress. The DoH will ensure that all activities follow health rules.

Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, explained that Abu Dhabi is becoming a trusted place for innovation. He said that this agreement will help create an environment where research can quickly turn into real products that people can use. The goal is to help businesses grow and succeed, while also bringing new health solutions to people worldwide.

The collaboration will also involve sharing laboratory networks and research centers to make the research stronger and faster. All the partners will work together to improve their research facilities and produce better results.

Prof. Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of UAEU, said that UAEU is proud to be part of this important project. He believes that the partnership will help the university expand its research in medical fields and prepare students to lead in healthcare.

Prof. Yendry Ventura, CEO of ADSCC, said that their center is focused on turning scientific discoveries into real medical treatments. He believes that this new partnership will help expand Abu Dhabi’s role in the global healthcare industry.

The partners also plan to focus on developing local talent. They will work together to create special programs, internships, and workshops to train young people in the life sciences field. The partnership will also include joint degree programs, research fellowships, and postdoctoral positions to support the development of healthcare professionals.

Fabio Piano, Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi, said that this partnership builds on the university's past work and sets the stage for big progress in human health research. He believes that attracting global talent will help improve healthcare and make a positive impact on the future of the UAE.

This new partnership is a major step forward for Abu Dhabi’s HELM cluster. It will help strengthen the emirate’s position as a global leader in scientific research and medical innovation.

Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025, which focuses on “Towards Longevity: Redefining Health and Well-being,” will be a key part of the efforts to bring new ideas into the healthcare sector. It will show how Abu Dhabi is working to create a better future for health and well-being around the world.
