The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has officially announced the renaming of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week to Global Food Week (GFW). This change reflects the growing significance of the event and underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to leading the global discourse on the pressing challenges and opportunities surrounding food security.
Scheduled to take place from November 26 to 28, 2024, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), Global Food Week will bring together an impressive assembly of global leaders, policymakers, and food security experts from around the world. The event is expected to serve as a platform for fostering international investments and partnerships within the agriculture and food sector, particularly in the UAE and the Middle East, while supporting efforts to enhance food security and eradicate hunger globally.
His Excellency Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of ADAFSA, stated, “Renaming Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week as Global Food Week represents a pivotal milestone in our journey toward a more sustainable future. Through this high-profile global event, Abu Dhabi and the UAE will reinforce their dedication to addressing increasingly urgent food-related challenges worldwide.”

Al Ameri elaborated that the name change signifies a broader vision adopted by the Abu Dhabi government and the UAE. The event aims to act as a global platform, uniting decision-makers, experts, and specialists in agriculture along with international organizations to tackle significant food-related issues. Topics such as global food supply, nutrition, financing and investment, climate change, food loss and waste, as well as innovations and technologies in the food sector will be key focus areas during the discussions.
Highlighting the importance of the event, Al Ameri revealed that it will feature several key activities, including the inaugural Global Food Security Summit. This summit aims to gather world leaders and experts to assess urgent challenges and propose innovative solutions to combat hunger. By facilitating the exchange of expertise, the summit aspires to accelerate Abu Dhabi’s ambitious efforts in establishing sustainable food systems in the UAE, the MENA region, and beyond. Global Food Week is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 2, which targets the eradication of hunger, achieving food security, and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of ADNEC Group, expressed, “Global Food Week underscores Abu Dhabi's emerging leadership role in steering global discussions on food security and sustainability. The event will gather global leaders, experts, and innovators to collaborate on solutions for some of the world's most urgent challenges.”
Al Dhaheri also emphasized that Global Food Week will bolster Abu Dhabi’s status as a hub for agricultural innovation while attracting essential investments and partnerships that strengthen food systems both regionally and globally. “Our aim is to contribute to worldwide initiatives focused on developing sustainable solutions that ensure food security for generations to come,” he noted.
In addition to the Global Food Security Summit, Global Food Week will host two significant international exhibitions: the 3rd Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition (ADIFE) and the 10th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition (ADDPE). These exhibitions will highlight national initiatives aimed at achieving food abundance within an integrated food security system.
The Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition will provide exhibitors from across the globe with opportunities to connect with a broad network of investors and access one of the fastest-growing markets in the global food and beverage sector. It promises to be a dynamic business platform showcasing the latest innovations and products for regional and international exhibitors and buyers seeking to finalize deals.
Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, stands as the premier global event dedicated to enhancing the status of dates within the MENA region. Set in the heart of Abu Dhabi, this exhibition is poised to attract industry leaders, companies, investors, and innovators eager to explore the integration of cutting-edge technology with date production.
As the event draws near, it is clear that Global Food Week will not only reaffirm Abu Dhabi's commitment to food security but also position the emirate as a key player in addressing global food challenges.
