The helicopter, a UH-60 BlackHawk, was based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, a military base close to Washington, D.C. This type of helicopter is used for many jobs, including carrying soldiers and helping in emergencies.

The first information given about the crash could change as more details come out. Rescue teams are still searching the crash site in the Potomac River near the airport. The water is cold and muddy, making it hard for the teams to find survivors.

The cause of the crash is being looked into by both the Army and the Federal Aviation Administration. They are working together to find out what happened.
