12-Year-Old starts fire at Finland school, injuring 3 classmates

In a startling incident, a 12-year-old opened fire at a school in Vantaa, located just outside the Finnish capital Helsinki, injuring three other children. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by the authorities. The school, which has approximately 800 pupils and 90 staff members, caters to children between the ages of seven and 15.

The police were alerted to the scene at 09:08 am, and it was later confirmed that both the suspect and the injured individuals were all 12 years old. Following the shooting, the city of Vantaa activated its crisis group to manage the situation.

Images from the scene depicted a significant police presence at the school premises. By around 11:30 am, the police reported that the suspect, who was armed at the time of the incident, had been apprehended in an area of Helsinki without any further complications.

Parents of the students attending the school disclosed to the media that the shooting had taken place within a classroom. In response to the situation, the police issued advisories urging the public to avoid the area and remain indoors, emphasizing not to open doors to strangers.

Finnish Interior Minister Mari Rantanen expressed her shock at the incident, acknowledging the distress and concern felt by many families. She emphasized the need for support and solidarity during such challenging times.
