The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Emirates Nature-WWF have started a new five-year plan from 2025 to 2029. This plan is made to help young people in the UAE learn about nature and how to protect it. The idea follows the UAE Year of Community, which encourages people to work together for a better future.

This new plan is part of the Connect with Nature programme. Since 2019, the programme has helped more than 2.5 million young people. It gives students from schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra a chance to go outside, explore nature, and learn by doing fun and useful activities. The goal is to teach young people about the environment and help them become strong leaders who care about the Earth.
To begin this new plan, Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, who is the Secretary-General of EAD, and Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, who is the Director-General of Emirates Nature-WWF, signed an agreement to work together again. They both believe that the new plan will help grow a new group of young leaders who will care for the UAE’s natural places.
One big part of the plan is a new Field Trip Series. Every year, around 2,000 students will go on trips to natural places like mangroves, beaches, and forests. On these trips, they will work with real nature experts and scientists. They might walk in muddy areas to check how plants grow, ride kayaks in the sea to look at sea animals, or give ideas on how to protect nature. These trips are made to help students learn about the world around them while having fun and helping the planet.
Dr Shaikha said that the plan is an important step to teach young people about nature in a way that mixes learning and action. She said that by adding real nature activities to school life, students will grow up ready to help the Earth. She said this also supports the UAE’s dream for 2030, which is to have a green and clean future.
Ahmed Baharoon, a leader at EAD, said that the future of the UAE depends on young people. He said that this five-year plan is proof that teaching and giving students real experiences can help them become the environmental leaders of tomorrow. He believes these young people will help make the UAE a better and cleaner place.
Laila Mostafa Abdullatif said that Connect with Nature started with a simple dream: to help young people love and protect nature. She said that over the past five years, many young people have joined the programme. More than 14,000 youth have given over 32,000 hours of their time to help the environment in 250 events and activities. She said she is very happy to now welcome even more students into the programme and help them become the changemakers of the future.
The field trip programme is open to students between 9 and 18 years old from all public and private schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. Parents, teachers, and schools can go to the Connect with Nature website to learn more and sign up. It is a great way for students to learn outside the classroom and do something good for the Earth.
