During the meeting, His Highness received a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing expansion of the airport’s passenger terminal, a project that will significantly increase its capacity to accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually. The update highlighted a number of key developments that have been completed on schedule. Among these are the project and public services building, new aircraft parking stands, the design of an improved road network, and upgraded vehicle parking areas.
A detailed visual presentation provided insights into multiple ongoing construction projects, covering different phases of supply, design, and tendering. His Highness reviewed the status of various packages currently under design, those that have entered the tendering process, and the overall construction timeline. The review also focused on long-term strategies for the airport’s facilities and future development plans.
As part of the expansion efforts, His Highness examined proposals for constructing an additional runway, developing a new passenger terminal, and enhancing the road network to seamlessly connect the new and existing airport facilities. These projects form a critical part of Sharjah’s broader strategy to enhance the airport’s capacity, ensuring it meets the growing demand for air travel in the region.
The expansion of the passenger terminal remains the most significant component of the development plan, with a total investment of AED 2.4 billion. The full expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
In addition to passenger-related enhancements, the Sharjah Airport Authority has initiated several projects to improve logistics operations. The ongoing efforts aim to upgrade the airport’s infrastructure, buildings, and systems to align with global environmental sustainability standards. A key focus has been placed on reducing carbon emissions while also improving service quality and operational efficiency.
The airport’s development strategy is designed to elevate its ranking among the top five regional airports known for superior travel experiences and customer service.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalid bin Issam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation; His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Issam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Civil Aviation Department; Ali Salem Al Madfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority; along with several project engineers and key officials.
