A court in Paris said that Marine Le Pen and about 24 people from her party, National Rally (RN), were guilty of wrongly using money from the European Union. Because of this, Le Pen is not allowed to run in the 2027 French election unless she can change the court’s decision within the next 18 months.

Le Pen said she will fight this decision in a peaceful and fair way. In a video message shown at a meeting in Italy, she said, “We will follow the way of Martin Luther King. Our fight will be peaceful and honest, just like his. He fought for civil rights. We will do the same.”
On Sunday, many of her supporters came together in Paris. They waved French flags and shouted, “We will win!” They wanted to show they are with her and that they believe the court’s ruling was not fair. Le Pen said the court is trying to end her political career.
One older woman, Marie-Claude Bonnefont, called the court’s decision “a joke.” A student named Typhaine Quere also said she did not trust the judges in the case.
The police did not say how many people were there, but the people who planned the event said about 15,000 showed up.
The court’s ruling was bad news for Le Pen. She is 56 years old and one of the biggest leaders in Europe’s far-right politics. She is also very popular in France and was expected to do well in the 2027 election.
Le Pen has already asked the court to look at the case again. The court said it will decide on this in the summer of 2026.
A new opinion poll showed Le Pen is still the top choice. She may get between 32% to 36% of the vote in the first round of the 2027 election. The second most popular person is former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, with 20.5% to 24%.
Even though Le Pen and her team said the judges are being unfair, many people in France don’t agree. The judge in Le Pen’s case had to get police help after receiving threats. But 65% of people in a poll said they were not surprised by the court’s decision. And 54% said Le Pen was treated the same as anyone else.
On the same day, people who do not support Le Pen held a different protest in another part of Paris. They wanted to show they stand with the judges and the law.
Some well-known politicians, like Gabriel Attal and Edouard Philippe, also came to show their support for the French system. Attal said, “We must protect our rules and leaders. The far right is trying to break our trust in them. We must stay strong.”
