Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The incident unfolded in the Desa area following a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched based on specific intelligence about terrorist presence.

The encounter began around 9 pm with heavy gunfire exchanged between security forces and terrorists. Initial reports indicated injuries to several soldiers, with at least five reported critically wounded. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh promptly spoke with Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to assess the situation and oversee the ongoing operation in Doda.

This marks the second significant attack in Jammu region within a week, following a previous incident in Kathua where five soldiers were killed and others injured in a coordinated assault on military trucks using grenades and armor-piercing ammunition.

Terrorist activities, once confined to certain districts, have now spread across Jammu, posing a heightened security challenge. Over the past 32 months, 48 soldiers have lost their lives in anti-terror operations in the region. Reports suggest an influx of over 60 foreign-trained terrorists specializing in jungle warfare, intensifying concerns across all ten districts of Jammu province.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently urged the Army to utilize its full anti-terror capabilities to eradicate terrorism from the Jammu region, underscoring ongoing efforts to stabilize security in the area.
